Our Farm

Established 2019

We moved our family to North Idaho in the summer of 2018. Our desire to raise our kids in the country and some great friends lured us here. We love the homestead life and strive to be more and more self-sufficient. We chose Scottish Highlands to be a source of grass fed/finished beef for our family after learning about their fabulous calving/maternal success, their hardy nature and delicious lean beef. Not to mention they are cute-as-heck and we delight in seeing them around the farm.

We homeschooled our five kiddos until 2024. In Feb of 2024 our youngest was shockingly and unexpectedly diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. That changed so much for our family and we now have our kiddos in a wonderful small private Christian school and they are thriving. We have a great community of like-minded friends, family and neighbors that are always willing to offer a helping hand or that proverbial "cup of sugar". Our Lord and Savior gets all the glory for how blessed we feel as a family!

We brought our first 4 Scottish Highland Heifers to our farm in the Summer of 2019. They were adorable and scared!! They escaped within hours of arriving on our farm and we didn't see them for a week! No joke! Our daughter, who was 4 years old at the time, screamed one morning, "There are cows in our yard!!" And, sure enough, the cows had come home! Our wonderful neighbors rallied together with us to put up some better fencing and that was our clumsy start to cattle ranching.

We have since gotten better at keeping our animals where they are supposed to be. They still get out though, who are we kidding?! But, we wrangle them back in and love sharing laughs and stories about the adventures on our farm.

Christmas of 2023 was the first time we opened our farm to guests. When we purchased our Highland cows it never crossed our minds that people would request to come and see them on our farm. We started by doing a local Farmer's Market and offered handmade and homegrown goods from our farm while occasionally bringing a fluffy cow to their monthly special events. We decided to do a Christmas photo opportunity for their Christmas Market in 2023. We advertised our cute setup but when the day rolled around, we got socked in with snow! Hauling our trailer with precious fluffy cargo proved to be impossible. We received calls and texts from folks saying they were driving hours to come take pictures with our cows! We told them, "Well, we can't get the trailer safely there, but if you want to come to the farm we can set it up here." And to our surprise, we had a huge turnout! That was the start of opening our farm for folks to come and love on our adorable and docile "coos" (that's what the Scottish call this beloved breed of cow.)

Now folks can book a private farm tour any time of the year or come to the events we offer at certain times of the year (Highland Harvest Event in the Fall, Christmas with the Coos at Christmastime, Highland Cow Kissing Booth for Valentine's Day, and so much more!) We also host private events like birthday parties, small rustic gatherings and photoshoots with awesome photographers. We are always game to try something new! Just reach out and ask, we're typically up for the challenge and fun!
